“Life is not so short but that there is always time for courtesy.”
Evidently “Unto” is a word as spell-check let it go but not really sure what an “unto” is but I have been thinking about this entry for a while as I drive around town and to and from clients. One of my big questions is why so many people are rude, inconsiderate or clueless? For example, just about every morning I drive through my small town plaza to get my Dunkin Donuts coffee. On average, at least once a day, I encounter either miserable or clueless (or both) people. They either walk right out in front of me after getting out of their car or what really annoys me is when I let people cross or cut in front of me in their car, they cannot freakin acknowledge it! I am not asking them to buy me dinner or send me an email but is a simple wave, gesture or head nod too much to ask?
I am like a Seinfeld episode where Jerry takes pride in the fact he waves everybody in when driving. But like him, all he wants is a little gratitude. I am not trying to be mean but elderly people are the worst especially when walking in a shopping plaza. I am not sure if it is more cluelessness or that some have conditioned themselves that their time here is coming up so either they don’t care or they don’t need to acknowledge. Check it out next time you go food shopping as they come right out of the supermarket with their carriage and do not even look as they cross the parking lot to their car in full cart stride. I know they know as they can see your car but refuse to make eye contact – very coy!
So with the holiday season upon us and the excuse for good cheer yadda yadda yadda, let’s all try to show some more courtesy to each other everywhere we go. Hold a door open, use a blinker, and let people in your lane combined with acknowledging when someone makes the Choice to do this to you. This is just not for this season but let’s make it more a part of our lives like our opening quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson.
